As of April 2023, the game is completable with exception for a rare crash with the final boss. There are graphical bugs in combat which are being addressed over time. SC runs LoD on a software renderer, which is slower than OpenGL (planned for this year), but still works well even on older hardware. We’ve recently had a huge influx of extra developers (7, including me!), so things have really picked up. Severed Chains has been a monumental project, and after just over two long years, we’ve finally released the first recommended build. In fact, it’s not emulation because this rebuild doesn’t rely on mimicking the PS1 hardware! For that reason the game runs faster, leaner, and has breakout modding capabilities. It acts like a PC port, albeit unofficial, and goes beyond the bounds of traditional emulation software. This project reverse-engineers Legend of Dragoon and rebuilds its game engine, meant for public use. There is also a multiplayer mode that can be played. Different bugs are stronger and weaker versus other types of bugs so the player must combine different strategies to go to the next mission. The game develops the logical skills of the player. However, the enemy bugs will attempt to do the same thing and can reclaim captured food. When all pieces of food bear your team's flag, the battle is won. This is achieved by positioning your bugs on the food long enough to raise a flag. The main objective of each battle is to either eradicate all of the enemy bugs or 'capture' every piece of food on the battlefield. The player must navigate their bugs, each with special skills, and engage the enemies’ bugs. The battlefields are common household places such as the kitchen floor or the backyard.
The game details a war of one group of insects battling against another. A PlayStation port was published in Japan in 1997. Battle Bugs is a real-time tactics video game developed for MS-DOS by Epyx and released by Sierra On-Line in 1994.
