He has curated popular exhibitions, including Modern Britain 1929-39 (Design Museum), 1999 Eric Ravilious (Imperial War Museum), 2003 and Eros to the Ritz: 100 Years of Street Architecture (Royal Academy), 2013.Īs professor of architecture and cultural history at the University of Greenwich, Alan taught architectural history and theory for undergraduate and diploma courses from 1999-2012, and has been a frequent external examiner for PhD and other higher degrees. He is joint editor of the journal Twentieth Century Architecture and joint editor of the monograph series, Twentieth Century Architects. He is a prolific writer for magazines and author of numerous books. Her academic research carried out there focused on the concept of ‘Play’ in architecture and urban space that was implemented into her collaborative experimental projects such as: a series of international awarded architectural installation titled as ‘Massimals’ a winning urban furniture installation entitled ‘Cloud Garden’ and the conceptual development for Cherokee Square Park, in Kentucky.Īkari is a First and Second Year Design Tutor at the LSA.įollowing a degree in History of Art from Cambridge, Alan received his doctorate on Architectural Education in Britain 1880-1914. Prior to joining Heatherwick Studio, she worked as a full time lecturer at University of Kentucky School of Architecture for 5 years and co-founded an architecture research lab, Design Office Takebayashi Scroggin in 2009. Prior to joining Heatherwick Studio, Akari lived and worked in New York for 13 years and worked at practices including Reiser + Umemoto RUR Architecture DPC, Weiss / Manfredi, and Ennead Architects on numerous cultural and public realm projects, research and competitions.Īkari graduated from her architecture degree at the Pratt Institute in New York and also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Akari is an architectural designer with significant experience on cultural, commercial, residential and masterplans projects, including a university campus, and large scale public realm / landscape / infrastructure design.Īkari joined Heatherwick Studio in 2015 and has since worked on numerous projects including Pier 55 a park and performance space on the Hudson River in New York an urban study and space analysis of Covent Garden, London and a design competition for a sustainable redevelopment of an existing central London Tower.
